The Beginning...
1914:
Walter Leo Dyer and Charles Dyer Jnr (Captain Charles Sons) quit working for his father on the PS Royal and enlists in the Army. (Photo to come)
1915:
Walter Leo Dyer and Charles Dyer (Jnr) land on Gallipoli. (photo to come)
1917:
Charles Dyer (Jnr) Killed in action near the Village of Le Barque Somme.
1919:
Walter Leo Dyer returns from WWI.
1921:
Walter Leo Dyer purchases the PS Arcadia and begins transporting general goods along the Murray River (SA).
1928:
Walter Leo Dyer joins his Brother (Dick Dyer) in Road Transport operating a delivery service from Renmark (S.A.) to Adelaide.
1932:
Walter Leo Dyer splits the partnership with his Brother (Dick Dyer). He purchases licences for transporting perishable goods between Melbourne and Gippsland from Riverina Transport owner Bob Ballantyne and relocates to Sale (Vic.) The transport operation is established in the back yard of the family home at 48 Elgin Street. (Pictured below are the first 2 loads being transported by W.L. Dyer transport from Melbourne to Gippsland).
1937:
The depot and head office is relocated to a larger house and site at 60 Lansdowne Street Sale and fleet consists of 8 trucks.
1943:
Chas Dyer joins his father W.L. Dyer full time in the transport business.
1949:
Doug Dyer joins the transport business full time. The fleet consists of 10 vehicles.
1954:
Graeme Keith Dyer joins the transport business full time.
1956:
Dyers distinctive corporate colours of Indian Turquoise and Plant Yellow are rolled out on the Dyers fleet.
1960:
Chas Dyer decides to pursue other opportunities and sells his shareholding to Graeme Keith Dyer and Doug Dyer.
1962:
Dyers purchase the ‘Silver Lake Flour Mill’ site in Sale and relocate to a 6 acre facility. Picture to come
1968:
First NEW vehicle purchased. Previously, all the vehicles were purchased second hand. Photo below
1969:
Dyers corporate logo registered. The circles in the logo represent the five axles of a prime mover and semi trailer and an arrow signified moving ahead.
1970:
Dyers purchase a Melbourne Depot at 25 Bennet Street Dandenong. Photo to come.
1975:
Joint venture company (with WG Hicks Transport) is established in Morwell and named ‘Gippsland Transport’.
1982:
Dyers purchase adjoining property in Sale and move head office to 26 York Street. Photo to come.
1985:
Walter Leo Dyer (pictured above) passes away aged 90.
Doug Dyer retires from the transport business the business is solely owned by Graeme Dyer and his three son’s Scott, Greg and David Dyer. The fleet consists of 13 prime movers, 22 trailers and 20 smaller vehicles (pictured below).
1987:
The ‘Gippsland Transport’ Joint venture was purchased outright by Dyers and the entire transport company was named ‘Dyers Gippsland Transport’.
1996:
Dyers launch ‘Dyers Distribution’ and enter the contract logistics segment.
1997:
First load conducted for IGA.
1998:
First load transported for Murray Goulburn.
1999:
First load conducted for Coca Cola Amatil.
First load conducted for Patties.
2000:
First load conducted for National Foods Morwell (Lion.)
2002:
Bairnsdale Depot established with 1 employee and 1 vehicle.
2004:
Assets of Grinter’s Transport and Towns Haulage (Bairnsdale) purchased and new depot constructed in Bairnsdale. Photo below
2009:
Dyers Distribution branches out in Adelaide. (photo below)
2011:
Dyers purchase 150th Prime mover. The fleet now also includes more than 100 ancillary trucks and vehicles and in excess of 200 trailers.
2012:
Graeme Keith Dyer (pictured below) receives an Order of Australia Medal for services to Road Transport and his contribution to the community of Wellington.
Joint venture company is established DKR (Dyer, Kettle and Rose) Logistics in Queensland.
2016:
Dyers purchase 2 hectare Food Storage and X-Dock Facility at Derrimut.
2019:
Today a Fleet size of over 600 and over 550 passionate employees across 11 sites.
